Chapter 12

The rain pelted hard against the side of the cottage. The mid-afternoon thunderstorm had inspired Dean and Riley to take refuge under the covers after they were caught in a downpour while walking along the beach.

Still tangled together, he rolled her onto her back and smiled. “You do realize this is the third time you’ve transported here this week and we’ve ended up in my bed.”

“Are you complaining?” She hitched her leg over his hip. The movement caused him to harden inside her. “It doesn’t feel like your complaining.”

“Oh, no, sexy witch.” He removed himself from her because he knew he wasn’t ready for another session that fast. As much as he admired her insatiable appetite he needed to pace himself. He rested his head in her lap and stared up into her tantalizing eyes. “We could spend all of your visits in here if that’s what you want.”

“I don’t care where we are.” She traced her fingers along his lips. “As long as I’m with you.”

“If the weather is better tomorrow maybe we can take the boat out. You know, a change of scenery?” He wanted another opportunity to see her in that tiny, white bikini. This time he’d make sure to pull the strings on the sides of her hips. Now that he knew what that sexy bikini hid there was no way he could resist.

“Sounds like a good idea.”

“Are you enjoying your summer here in my simple time? I know we don’t have all of that fancy technology you’ve been telling me about.”

“Actually, it’s kind of nice not having to be available every second of the day for everyone. Of course, I wouldn’t give up all the stuff we have in my era but spending time here makes me appreciate the simpler, quieter moments. It’s different nowadays. The kids are so busy in my time, people are driven to succeed to the point of obsession, and we just don’t have time for one another it seems. Watching the news, reading the paper and magazines, and observing your routines in your time somehow make me long for what you have.”

“Would you stay here with me?” It was selfish to ask. Her staying in his world wasn’t even a possibility, but that fact didn’t stop him from dreaming.

“I wish I could.” She played with his hair.

He closed his eyes, enjoying her soothing touch. Everything about her was perfect, even the way she threaded her fingers through his hair. “I shouldn’t have asked you that. It wasn’t fair.”

“I think about all of the possibilities for us to be together. Every time I transport here I hope we have an answer, a reason as to why we connected the way we did. Every time I leave you, I lose a little part of myself.”

“I guess sometimes we’re not meant to know everything.”

“Doesn’t that frustrate you?” Her leg muscles tensed beneath his shoulders. “Of all of the people in the world, we found one another. We had to defy time and space to do that.
